“Fast and furious” is the way the three female leads describe the script of Boeing Boeing.

MISSES SANDRA GLEESON, JANETTE CRAIG, and JUNE CAMPBELL, who will play the parts of three air hostesses in Boeing-Boeing.

They are local actresses, Misses Janette Craig, June Campbell, and Sandra Gleeson.

“It’s a ‘jet’ script to match the title,” say the Sydney trio who play the roles of air hostesses and the three fiancees of a gay Lothario acted by Ron Frazer.

None of the girls has had any association with airways work — but none was surprised to land these roles.

Dark-haired Miss Craig, for instance, is the French hostess.

“And I’ve been doing lots of French parts on radio,” she says.

But because the play is set in Paris, the actors will be using neutral accents.

“I’m a bit disappointed. I speak schoolgirl French — but I’d been furiously polishing it up with the help of the secretary of French Consul-General,” said Miss Craig. “Now I won’t need it.”

Miss Campbell is not surprised to find that she was chosen for the American hostess part, either. She has been working at the Independent Theatre for three years and in that time has portrayed several Southern American women — including Miss Mabel in J.B.

“For Boeing Boeing, though, I use a New York accent… not too broad,” she said.

And Miss Gleeson expected to be the German hostess.

“I’m always cast in Northern European-Scandinavian and Nordic or in Greek roles,” said Miss Gleeson. Her stage fiance, Mr. Frazier, is an architect.

Real Life

And in real life, Miss Gleeson’s fiance, Mr. William Firth, is an architect. They will be married on Saturday at Riverview College Chapel.

She has completed two years with N.I.D.A. and was going to Melbourne to play a Greek woman in the Consider Your Verdict series until she knew of the Boeing Boeing offer — and that she would be playing in the same company as Mr. Peter Jones.

Boeing Boeing will have its Australian premiere at the Palace Theatre on February 28.
